What is Successful Aging?
Today is a fabulous time for aging! We've got an entire field of medical science, nutrition and cosmetology on our side. With today's scientific advances, we can fully expect a long lifetime of good health and vibrancy. And it's easier than you think. How do researchers define healthy aging?
Drs. John W. Rowe and Robert L. Kahn (Successful Aging) define healthy aging as having three key characteristics. * Low risk of disease and disease-related disability * High mental and physical function * Active engagement with life What’s the bottom line? How you live moment-to-moment can contribute to how well you age. More so even than genetics, your lifestyle impacts how well you age.
Your lifestyle includes your choice of diet, choice of physical activity, how you choose to relate to the world and your self-perception. Lifestyle is largely a series of choices. Healthy choices start with wanting the best for yourself.
